Break through writer's block the natural way
Has writer's block got its ugly grips on you once again? Try to start by writing about what is right in front of you. Just begin to write. See where this will take you. ( I happened to be in the Berkshires overlooking a lake when I wrote this.)
Below, to the right is a photograph of what was right in front of me. You may be sitting in a cafe or at your kitchen table. "Wherever you go, There you are," as famous author, Jon Kabat-Zinn would say. Become mindful of your surroundings. With that in mind, open your senses and write. Write what you see, what you smell, what you hear, what you think, write about the touch of your fingertips as they tap away on the keyboard. Name that tune. When you open your senses to writing there will be no shortage of ideas or topics.

Blue iridescent still waters surrounded by hills and valleys of kaleidoscope colors. Picture perfect serenity abounds this landscape with endless solitude reaching down from the puff filled clouds above
The sun beckons a calling intermittently poking its head in and out. Replenishing the hidden caverns of our minds with the sweet promise of renewal. Thoughts just waiting to breathe enter my mind.
“H mm, sounds, like I just wrote a quote. How does this sound?” In the hidden caverns of our minds lie still waters just waiting to breathe. Imagine being one with your thoughts.
Even looks like a quote.
“In the hidden caverns of our mind lie still waters and deep thoughts, just waiting to breathe. Imagine, being one with your thoughts.” Sage Williams
Don’t’ break the flow or train of thought just keep writing. Your writing will take on a world of its own. Write whatever comes into your mind. Try not to stop. Even if you find yourself writing; every good boy deserves fudge. The word boy or fudge may have a strong association and trigger something else. Such as the word 'thoughts' has for me.
Speaking of getting back to my thoughts.
Ah just what I have been waiting for oneness in the present, oneness with my thoughts
Ah, what to write about. I search for a title, words, anything that will conjure up my thoughts and inspire me to write. “How’s this?” “Who am I and where am I in relation to Nothing?” “Where in the world did that come from, I think?” “As Natalie Goldberg say’s, “It doesn’t matter, just write, write down the bones.”
Are you confused yet? I’m a little confused what exactly am I saying. The words come before me and I write. Not knowing what is going to come out of this or where I am going. My writing has become a great way to explore the caverns of my mind; to get to know myself and share my deepest thoughts.
At many different stages of my life my writing was a necessity for keeping my sanity. It was a way of purging the madness that existed inside. As time went on it became a daily living requirement. In those moments, I dreaded writing; unfortunately, I would wait till I was on the edge of despair or was sinking into the deep, dark vastness of the abyss. It was only then that I would somehow find the strength and courage to surrender and write to pull myself back. Writing was a release; it became a way of life.
Today however, it’s no longer a necessity; it’s a pleasure; one that I’ve grown accustomed to and love. Although writing is a passion, I still ponder when thinking about writing and without the sense of urgency, striving to keep my sanity. I do not indulge myself as often as I’d like to.
To get back to, “Who am I, and where am I in relation to nothing?” I am a creator; a creator of this moment, my life, my thoughts, my dreams, my visions; my beliefs, whatever I choose them to be. Although I am a creator of my own life; I am also a part of nothing. Are you with me? I have come to believe that we are all one.
In relation to nothing we are all something and we join together to become one. As we all know, without joy there would be no sorrow. Without hot there would be no cold. Nor can there be nothing, without something or nowhere without somewhere.
Although as I child I was not consciously aware of this concept. I believe I knew this on some level. As I child I created a special place called nowhere. Nowhere was a safe place for me; It was a place that really existed. In order to get to nowhere you had to be nobody. No thoughts, no beliefs; no visions, no dreams, that was me of course. I had already felt as though I didn’t exist. Everybody else was somebody.
Therefore because I was nobody, I could go to nowhere where no one could bother me. I was free, free from everything, everyone and everywhere.
As an adult I can clearly see that in order for me to be nobody. I must be somebody first. And in order for nowhere to exist, in reality there must be somewhere.
So here I am today, not yesterday, as I have come to know myself; writing on words that I chose from nowhere and have reflected their meanings to be somewhere, in relation to my life in this very moment.
Ironically for me today, I have to say the happiest times in my life are when I am just being. Being with my loved ones, being with my thoughts, being with myself; doing absolutely nothing, just simply being; being all that I am in the moment and enjoying life as it is; with it’s simplest pleasures unfolding before me.
I would have to say that I learned the gentle art of just being as a child; a concept that so many people strive to understand.
Today in this moment I am just being.
Congratulations!, you have just managed to break through the grips of your writers’ block by literally writing your way right through. By writing in flow you write whatever comes to your mind.
In the end, you may discover that you have broken through barriers. unleashed revelations or perhaps you now have answers to questions you have been searching for.
When you open yourself to your surroundings through your senses; you become mindful. Your awareness is at your finger tips. Just write or type whichever method is the easiest and allows you to just keep writing. The key is to just keep going.
When you're finished you can go back and edit.

I like this.
Simplistic beauty, of word and thought!
Love the landscape pic too; you said "picture perfect serenity" and it is.
I'm eager to read more of your hubs too.
Perfect! I've been blocked for the last few months. I'm sure you've helped a great deal, thanks.
Sage advice. Instead of worrying about it, pacing back and forth, you just force yourself to write. Whining gets us nowhere. Oh and hard hard it must be to write up there in the Berkshires. So beautiful, I would just want to look at the scenery.
I did a writing course 2 years ago and they said writers can - if they try hard enough - write their way through writers block. Nice photo too!
What perfect timing. I am encouraging my friend to pursue a writing career. I am sending him this article!
Thanks Sage!
Yes writing stops you from going insane! I had some inner torment but since i started writing here i feel relieved. Somtimes you have to put how you feel on paper, to get comments back on your story then is uplifting.
Thank you. A really good way to get through writer's block. Now if you could just give me a way to get through promote-your-books block, that would be perfect.
seriously, I found your Hub to be insightful and informative - thanks again.
The same thing also seems to work for me. Once you sit down and start writing, the ideas just start to flow naturally. :)
sometimes I feel this and you have good insights here Sage, Thanks for the link too, Maita
I often get into writers block. I can chunk out lot of small twitter texts and tips but more than 500 words comes hardly these days from me. Thanks for this hub on writers block.
I've been meaning to come over here to read this. It's my belief that writer's block doesn't exist! How could it? Why don't you write to me about how it does exist! See what I mean? I used to keep a journal for over 15 years--I've been meaning to go back to writing it, but then found HubPages! Great first hub by the way. I'm going to have to read more of your hubs. Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure many will find this helpful.

Hi my dear Sage, I find your hub very helpful, I am so glad that I read it. All those tips, explanation that you give in such a good way have helped me. I love writing but dont have much confidence. I am always worried about my mistakes and that sometimes stop me for writing. I am so happy that I came to HP, and been in contact with some wonderful writers like yourself. I was also, so honnored that you have read my hub. Bless you my dear.:D
OK FYI - bookmarked, printed and on my desk. Thank you for a wonderful creative way to help others have the confidence to overcome what we all share at one time or another.
Your fantastic as is this hub, cheers, thank you
Kimberly
Great insight, Sage...
Some kind of brainstorming and writing storming, reaching into the recesses of your soul, even beyond the boundaries of the self and existence, between nothingness and eternity. A vast, endless now that encompasses all and none.
I loved it!
warm regards and blessings, my friend,
Al
I'll have to make this a mantra, "write yourself through a writers block." Thank you I needed this one. I'm going to put the technique to work right now.
I enjoyed the read and you gaves some very good advice as well. I have recently started getting back into the swing of things as writing gose.I too tend to write myself out of a block and am usually quite pleased with myself in the end. This is a good share, thanks for writing it.
I used to not believe in writer's block...until I did, lol. Great hub!! ;)
Sage, thank you for the information. I will try. We'll see what happens.
Good advice, thanks for sharing this information. It happens to everyone at one time or another :)
Mental block! This is my nemesis! I try to overcome though but comes along in between my rest days on advice by my diabetologist and my resolve to sneak in some nuggets in my laptop, then every effort is suspended in thin air. Very interesting tips. Thank you.
Great post..Thanks
