My Dearest Melanie
67
Poem below..
During my own recovery from childhood sexual abuse.
I was asked to speak with a young girl whom had just been molested.
Her
parents, whom were two of my very best friends were devastated to say
the least and did not know where to turn.
They had asked me if there was one piece of advice that I could tell Melanie, what would it be? I replied, "Tell, Melanie she's innocent, it was not her fault. She did nothing wrong".
Later that same day, I sat and listened to Melanie as she struggled to tell her story. As she told her story, I found myself dissociating as there were triggers, that kicked in for me. Having known, Melanie and her family for sometime, this was one of the hardest things I had ever been asked to do. This one had extreme emotional ties for me. I felt at a loss to help either Melanie or her parents, because of my own issues that I was still working through at that time.
I went to bed that evening and in the middle of night, I awoke at different intervals and wrote down sentences that came to my mind. In the morning I looked over at what I had written and realized this was a message for Melanie. Looks like my subconscious worked through the night to help us both. I hand delivered this poem to Melanie the following day.

An Einstein Theory as it Relates to Survivor Dissociation
The disconnection or lack of connection which I experienced as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse was a severance between my memories, thoughts and feelings; as well as my mind and body. The article explores and compares the commonalities between Einstein’s optical delusion of consciousness quote and Dissociation as it relates to trauma
Understanding the Psychological Effects of
Childhood Sexual AbuseAs a survivor of child sexual abuse, I learned a creative way to remove myself from experiencing something to cruel for any child to bear. As a result there were many psychological effects and problems that remained.

Beautiful poem. I love to see it when someone can turn a horrible crime against them into something positive. There are so many people who do not have the strength to do this. Thank you for sharing this.
oh that was absolutely brilliant...... the best poems come in the night...... your thought process seems to sort it out as you sleep...... Lucky Melanie to have someone as you, to help her
This is a very heartfelt hub. Thanks for sharing your empathy for others.
Touching poem. I'm glad Melanie had you!
Beautiful I hope it helps Melanie.
Thankyou so much for such an uplifting and touching hub. Your poetry is lovely too at the end. I hope Melanie is somehow putting the experience behind her, and you too. It's a terrible thing to go through. I have a friend who had a similar experience.
I love your poem. It's very real- from life. Words come and fill our heads and when they do "everyone should write them down so they don't get in the way of the other words and thoughts that are coming. Thanks for writing and hubbing!
"I pray you'll find courage to continue to speak."
"I pray that all will find courage to continue to speak."
This is all we have I think. We have truth as we find it. We have a way to communicate what our spirit is- what we have come to know. Thanks
What a wonderful Hub and the poem is quite stunning, really! Your insight is uplifting and I'm sure Melanie has gained much comfort from you and is better able to cope because of that.
Thanks for caring so much for others through your own pain.
Love and peace
Tony
Sage, That is such a beautifully written hub and that poem was perfect. Maybe God was prompted your subconscious that night as the poem is truly inspired.
I can't imagine how it must have felt to have such a terrible thing happen to a child that you knew, especially when it also had happened to you. The sorrow and the fury must have been overwhelming, that's why you had that disassociate state. But I hope that helping her made you feel stronger. The unconscious poem was so heartfelt.
Sage, there is a tug in my heart reading this hub. And I could feel God's love embracing all of us, reminding us of our wonderful being. I am so glad too that you were there for Melanie and knowing where she is right now in her life puts hope back in the heart. May we all have the courage to speak our truth and be free. To healing and love... Blessings.
Hi Sage, it is wonderful how rest and trust allows insight to come, even in the night. You have a gift of sharing from the heart that heals and encourages. We would avoid much heartache if we knew each other's triggers and raw spots so we could be gentle around them. As you said, the best way is just to be open and to keep sharing our feelings. Blessings
Wow. I'm so glad that I found this hub of yours to read. You did a very good thing on so many levels. This poem was perfect under the circumstances. Hats off to you for helping Melanie. This poem is amazing to say the least.
I'm speechless.
Hi, that was a lovely poem. I am sure she still appreciates it even now. Nell

Sage Williams I just noticed your comments on some hubs and decided to check you out.. and here I am,
I was reminded of this scripture as I read your awesome poem..
2 Cor 1 :3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
How true, how awesome indeed, he is faithful to his word..continue to be the consolation and strength to those like Melanie... May God bless you abundantly!
Beautifully written and such a tragic story.
What a wonderful gift you gave. Beautifully written and so true--our feelings, as hard as they can be, never lie to us--and always steer us true--Thank you for such a beautiful reminder of that--
Empathy at its very best.Such a very beautiful poem .
