My Dearest Melanie

Poem below..

During my own recovery from childhood sexual abuse. I was asked to speak with a young girl whom had just been molested.

Her parents, whom were two of my very best friends were devastated to say the least and did not know where to turn.

They had asked me if there was one piece of advice that I could tell Melanie, what would it be? I replied, "Tell, Melanie she's innocent, it was not her fault. She did nothing wrong".

Later that same day, I sat and listened to Melanie as she struggled to tell her story. As she told her story, I found myself dissociating as there were triggers, that kicked in for me. Having known, Melanie and her family for sometime, this was one of the hardest things I had ever been asked to do. This one had extreme emotional ties for me. I felt at a loss to help either Melanie or her parents, because of my own issues that I was still working through at that time.

I went to bed that evening and in the middle of night, I awoke at different intervals and wrote down sentences that came to my mind. In the morning I looked over at what I had written and realized this was a message for Melanie. Looks like my subconscious worked through the night to help us both. I hand delivered this poem to Melanie the following day.

Thanks so much for you comment and questions regarding mel. Melanie is grown, married and has two beautiful daughters of her own. Every year she updates me with a picture Christmas card.

Melanie was fortunate enough to have had the courage to continue to speak out against abuse. She used her experience as a gift, to raise awareness amongst her peers.

Beautiful poem. I love to see it when someone can turn a horrible crime against them into something positive. There are so many people who do not have the strength to do this. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks so much for reading and for your sweet comments. This was the first time that I had written a poem during the night. However, it has been my experience when struggling with the unknown to just place it in the back of my mind and the answers will eventually come.

Thanks so much, you comment is greatly appreciated!

Thankyou so much for such an uplifting and touching hub. Your poetry is lovely too at the end. I hope Melanie is somehow putting the experience behind her, and you too. It's a terrible thing to go through. I have a friend who had a similar experience.

Sorry Cheeky Girl - I didn't see your comment. A really terrific one, none the less. Thanks so much for you kind words. Recovery is a great thing and yes you move on. But you never forget. The experience itself becomes integrated as a part of your life and you accept it as so.

The after affects, are and always will be a challenge.

Thanks again,

Sage

I love your poem. It's very real- from life. Words come and fill our heads and when they do "everyone should write them down so they don't get in the way of the other words and thoughts that are coming. Thanks for writing and hubbing!

"I pray you'll find courage to continue to speak."

"I pray that all will find courage to continue to speak."

This is all we have I think. We have truth as we find it. We have a way to communicate what our spirit is- what we have come to know. Thanks

Sage, That is such a beautifully written hub and that poem was perfect. Maybe God was prompted your subconscious that night as the poem is truly inspired.

Pamela, Thanks so much for reading and commenting. One of the many things I learned throughout my recovery was, when I didn't have the answer about something I would just place it in the back of my mind and sooner or later the answer would come.

Trusting in the process was the key for me; sooner or later the answers would be revealed. In this particular case it came very soon and through out the entire night.

God works in mysterious ways.

Hugs to you,

Sage

I can't imagine how it must have felt to have such a terrible thing happen to a child that you knew, especially when it also had happened to you. The sorrow and the fury must have been overwhelming, that's why you had that disassociate state. But I hope that helping her made you feel stronger. The unconscious poem was so heartfelt.

Hi Sage, it is wonderful how rest and trust allows insight to come, even in the night. You have a gift of sharing from the heart that heals and encourages. We would avoid much heartache if we knew each other's triggers and raw spots so we could be gentle around them. As you said, the best way is just to be open and to keep sharing our feelings. Blessings

Sage Williams I just noticed your comments on some hubs and decided to check you out.. and here I am,

I was reminded of this scripture as I read your awesome poem..

2 Cor 1 :3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

How true, how awesome indeed, he is faithful to his word..continue to be the consolation and strength to those like Melanie... May God bless you abundantly!
