Life Coach Courses through Hummingbird Therapy
71Disclaimer Please note: I am not a professional therapist, hypnotherapist or life coach
nor do I hold any type of life coaching certification.
I am a writer with an imaginative mind. My writing is based upon my life experiences, lessons and topics I have researched.
I, like many others am still in the process of learning and evolving as personal growth in my opinion is a life long process.
In no way, shape or form should this article be perceived or misconstrued as professional advice or an exact science.
So what exactly is a life coach? A Life coach is a one-on-one relationship with another individual or as in this case a magnificent little companion who is capable of offering guidance, spiritual enlightenment and support. A good life coach, in my opinion, is one who is capable of offering guidance through a variety of different methods.
Anne Sullivan Macy
When I think of an extraordinary life coach, I think of Anne Sullivan Macy, known as the miracle worker, and her one-on-one relationship with Helen Keller.
Although Anne’s relationship with Helen started out as a teacher /student relationship; in the years to follow she became more of a companion / mentor or what may be referred to today as a Life Coach.
Ms Sullivan's life not only exemplifies the ultimate true meaning of a personal and professional life coach, it goes above and beyond.
Therefore, life coaching is a powerful process through multidimensional techniques that have the capabilities to open up your psyche to new pathways of learning.
Anne Sullivan "The Miracle Worker"
One example may be to transform negative thoughts, patterns, behaviors into positive thoughts, and healthier ways to cope.
Where as, a more complex and creative method would be where Anne Sullivan taught Helen Keller how to speak by drawing the letters on her hand and placing her hand to her lips when she verbalized each sound.
In essence through her creative and multidimensional techniques she created new pathways for Helen to see the world. As in Helen Keller's case it was a miracle. It was like getting a fresh new pair of eyes and ears.
Anne Sullivan, started out attending the school for the blind. When she graduated she was hired as a personal teacher for Helen Keller. Helen Keller was deaf, dumb and blind. She was known as the wild child due to her angry out bursts from her frustrations of not being able to communicate.
Anne carried with her the skills that she learned at Perkins School for the blind and incorporated them into her work with Helen. Anne had all of the essential qualities that are required to be a Personal Life Coach. In fact, you might say, Anne redefined the meaning of a Personal Life Coach.
Anne went above and beyond her teaching. Anne saw something in Helen that no one else could see. Anne believed in her. Through her fierce determination to have Helen succeed in being able to understand and communicate, she became creative in her endeavors. In addition to spelling the letters on her hand and placing Helen's hand to her lips, she started placing the object of the word she was spelling into Helen's hand to feel.
Taking Helen to the well one day while placing Helen's hand under the water as she feverishly went back and forth using this technique resulted in a miraculous break through for both of them. For the first time in Helen's life she began to understand the meaning of words. Anne became famously known as, "The Miracle Worker." Anne's dedication and perseverance paid off. Her vision became real.
Thus, she did not stop here. Anne went above and beyond her duties and a teacher. She had found her calling with Helen and remained by her side the remainder of her life.

Life Coach Courses and Hummingbird Therapy
There are many different life coaching courses that one can take to become a certified life coach. The courses that one might take would coincide with the type of coach one wants to be. There are various types of coaches and courses such as; Life Coach Courses, Spiritual Life Courses, Personal Life Coaches, Career Life Coaches, etc. etc.
I will touch upon a few of the essential qualities that a coach should have. The first and foremost quality is listening. Learning to listen well, to both verbal and nonverbal is a crucial skill. Next to listening is a variety of ways to communicate effectively.
Like the hummingbird, a coach should have the ability to motivate, inspire and empower you. They should also have determination and perseverance. Many of these skills come naturally and some may need to be refined.
Like Anne Sullivan and her determination to help Helen Keller, the hummingbird is also known for its, perseverance, loyalty and ability to open one’s heart.
As we learned in my previous article the hummingbird has been known to fly over 2,000 miles during it's migration to reach its destination. The hummingbird is also known to be a loving companion once he learns to trust you.
A Holistic Approach through Hummingbird Therapy
In my previous article titled, "How to Attract Hummingbirds into Your Life!" I had stated, "My personal belief is that the hummingbird is a messenger and a guide, willing and able to teach us many valuable lessons. The hummingbird accentuates the spiritual side of life; offering spiritual direction and guidance to people as they attempt to learn, grow and deepen their relationships while here on this Earth."
By observing the hummingbird and opening your mind to new ways of learning you can learn a holistic approach to acquiring the necessary skills and becoming your own life coach.
Everything you need you have inside of yourself. What once were obstacles and struggles are extraordinarily refined into pathways of learning through enlightenment.
With the hummingbird as a spiritual life coach or guidein mind, let us continue on.
Although, it is not necessary, many life coaches are certified in other areas and have a vast array of other skills and therapeutic techniques that they incorporate into their coaching practices. Such as hypnotherapy, energy psychology, mediation, to mention a few.
I personally like to think of these techniques as 'methods of discipline' that are instrumental to our natural way of being. By refining, we are able to get back to our original state of being who we were meant to be.
With that in mind let's continue on to Energy Psychology and Hummingbird Hypnotherapy.

This is a very interesting article, Sage, especially your use of the hummingbird analogy.
I have often used the bumblebee as a symbol of overcoming what appears to be impossible challenges. The rationale? The bumblebee's body is too heavy for its tiny wings. Aeronautically, it is impossible for the bee to fly. But the bee doesn't know this so it flies anyway.
Sage - your Hubs make me wish that we had hummingbirds here! They really sound so wonderful. And you write about them so beautifully. Thanks for this lovely Hub.
Love and peace
Tony
Interesting hub.
An inspirational hub, thanks for the information.
Anne Sullivan has always been one of my heroes for very obvious reasons. When we discovered how very blind our son was, I decided I was going to make sure he was the 'best' blind he could be (totally crazy woman, I know) - but set about bombarding him with all sorts of various and sundry sensory stimuli starting at the ripe old age of 4-6 months. At age 31, he is an incredible musician and as well does so well few people even notice (at first) that he can barely see. I am a firm believer in therapies healing (to the extent possible anyway) and in the power of positive thinking. I always tell Pat he is my inspiration and when I think I can't do something, all I have to do is think of him. Helen Keller was an amazing example of what there is to discover - about ourselves and each other. Great hub.
Sage, this is a very interesting hub and I love using the humming birds as a good example as we have them here and I plant flowers to attract them and we have a feeder. It is so emotionally healthy to learn to pay attention to the non verbal and verbal cues. Excellent hub.
This hub compliments some I have written. I like you am not a professional, and do not claim to be, but I love trying to help others and have found that Life Coaching has a variety of ways to do that. So when I write I am giving away information I have found that has helped me.
thanks for sharing
One of my hubs is Life Coaching Explained.
Love this hub as I believe when Helen Keller said that those we dont see and we feel are the most important things in the world, gotta love the hummingbirts and the share here, wonderful. Feel the things with your eye closed and it helps you, Thank you Sage, Maita
Absolutely, beautiful hub . . I now have a new appreciation for the hummingbird. I do love to watch them and I now understand why. Peace friend Sage Williams
I'm a believer of the power of coaching. Beautiful hub, Sage. Thank you for the information about the hummingbird. Very inspiring!
I've seen that movie and it's simply wonderful, here in Italy it was called "Miracles' Anne". I like very much your hummingbirds therapy series. Thumbs up and stumbled. :)
As an emerging butterfly, I appreciate your hummingbird analogy. From one free spirit to another. Thanks.
Namaste.
Hello Sage, Very interesting hub. I am a certified addiction counselor who has considered becoming a life coach, but live in a very small rural Georgia town, which probably would not lend itself well to such an endeaver. Very interestiing hub, and caused me to revisit the idea, though it probably wouldn't work in rural Georgia, due to the low income level here.
Those birds are so beautiful-I also wish we had them here-we don't have zebras either!
You have given a lot of food for thought here-quite fascinating.
I absolutely LOVE this Hub. Anne Sullivan was one of my heroes growing up - what a beautiful Being! I saw a hummingbirds nest when I was a little girl and was so awestruck by it that I carry the vision of it with me still. This was very well written and contained so much TRUTH! Thank YOU!
This Lenten Season offers me time for recollection activities in my various group membership in church. The resource speakers are like hummingbirds who share their wisdom for my spiritual upliftment. I think Anne Sullivan lives in every place where people who care for other people are.
We don't have hummingbirds here but as of this moment, I'm listening to the thrill of an early bird tweeting on the tree branch near my window and oh, it gives new meaning to the breaking of another new day. I promise to take heed of the intent of this hub- to invite as many hummingbirds as I could in my life. Thank you.

I always used the hummingbird as an example of a metabolic pathway, which allows it to flap its wings so fast it feels stationary while sucking on the nectar.
In American Society, people like to see "Certified" as a validity of coaching unless what you are coaching is something of your expertise. It is not necessary, in my opinion.
I love your use of Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller, but we really would not call Anne as coach, rather a mentor.
The difference being, a mentor has the right to dictate the mentee what to do. A coach does not.
