Well for starters, let’s entertain the thought that hummingbirds have the amazing ability to open even the hardest of hearts.
Their playful dances and intuitive friendly nature will awaken your spirit and fill your being with endless hours of joy.
Throughout the centuries dating back to the Mayans, the hummingbird has been known to have various symbolic meanings.
The symbolic meanings are vast ranging from, the spreader of life on earth; peaceful, protectors of the homeland, rebirth, freedom, happiness, spiritual guidance, healing, joy, to love and beauty to name just a few.

My personal belief is that the hummingbird is a messenger and a guide, willing and able to teach us many valuable lessons.
The hummingbird accentuates the spiritual side of life; offering spiritual direction and guidance to people as they attempt to learn, grow and deepen their relationships while here on this Earth.
Hence, you might think of your relationship with the hummingbird as a spiritual teacher or a life coach. Follow along while we embrace this openhearted, friendly and affectionate little creature.

Like the philosophy of Feng Shui, it is known that individuals are affected by their surroundings. The underlying fundamental belief is such; by changing their surroundings and / or their environment they free their minds of both mental and physical clutter.
When the individual accepts and believes this concept, they open themselves up to the universe and the possibilities of change ensue.
By releasing the clutter they are open to attract elements of peace, harmony, joy and love; compassion fills their hearts and beauty surrounds. Senses are awakened, awareness is born; they become mindfully aware of living in the present moment.
If you have ever observed hummingbirds you may have witnessed the hummingbird doing exactly the same thing. As a hummingbird perches in a tree he sits entirely motionless for several minutes, scanning the area and taking it all in. One might say he is mindfully aware of his surroundings and is fully present.
This very same concept can be used to attract hummingbirds into your life; by cleaning up the clutter in your back yards and creating a hummingbird habitat that is a personal sanctuary for both you and your inspirational feathered friends.
You will open your mind, body and spirit to the elements of living in a harmonious flow; your soul will experience a sense of rejuvenation.

Hummingbirds are easy adaptable creatures that don’t mind sharing their space. Once they become accustomed to you and learn that they can trust you they will have no problem coming right up to you. Many people have been able to feed the hummingbirds by holding a feeder tube or by cupping their hand and placing liquid nectar into the palm. The hummingbird's have been known to perch on their fingers while drinking from the tube or palm of their hand.

- Hummingbird Migration Facts The hummingbird is a persistent
and loyal little bird. Many species that migrate to the Unites States
have been known to travel over 2,000 miles during migration including
a 500 mile non-stop stretch over the Gulf of Mexico.
- Hummingbird's Anatomy The Hummingbird's are uniquely fascinating birds. Due to the
hummingbird's unique anatomy complete with a ball and socket joint in
the shoulder. They have amazing abilities to rotate their wings 180
degrees, thus being able to make circles with their wings somewhat like a figure eight motion.
- Hummingbird's can fly side to side, forward and backwards and hover in mid-air like a space ship.
- They
can soar at amazing speeds of beating their wings up to 80 times a
second during flight. During their courtship they tend to power dive
with wing speeds up to 200 beats per second. The hummingbird heart rate is known to reach 1,260 beats per minute.
- They are recognized for their symbolic meanings and beautiful color range of bright iridescent neon colors.
Hummingbird Food Mixture
- Ratio, mix 1 part sugar to 4 parts water mixture.
- Immediately add 4 parts sugar, stir until all the sugar is dissolved.

Creating a Hummingbird Habitat
There are many important steps to consider in creating a hummingbird habitat that will attract hummingbirds into your life.
First and foremost is to plant lots of brightly colored flowers containing nectar, especially ones that have a trumpet or tunnel shape.
Here
are a few flowers that you might consider; fuchsia, cora bells, bee balm,
columbine and petunias. Keep in mind when choosing the colors of your garden that hummingbirds love the color red. Be sure to incorporate lots of red flowers.
You should also have several hummingbird feeders. My two personal favorites pictured to the right and can be purchased right here. The first feeder is a hanging feeder and is one of the bests. The Hummingbird window feeders are also very popular.
For tips and advice on how to choose the best hummingbird feeders read my other article. Hummzinger Hummingbird Feeders.
If you have often wondered why the base of the hummingbird feeder is
red, you now know. Hummingbird's like human's have favorite colors as
well.
Like all birds, the hummingbird is
attracted to water. Having a bird bath,
a small pond or even a gentle mist is essential to your habitat. The hummingbird loves to bathe on misted foliage or in pools of water.
You should also consider choosing a variety of plants that bloom at different times through out the seasons. It is important to keep a supply of nectar available at all times.
If you have a fence or divider where vines can grow, plant a hummingbird vine. Hummingbird vines have trumpet like flowers and come in a variety of colors. They are easy to grow and offer a nice backdrop as well as enhancing your habitat. Due to the nature of these vines taking over you might want to consider planting these in pots.
Hummingbirds love tiny insects so avoid using any pesticides in your habitat. As nectar is their fuel and energizes these magnificent little creatures. Insects are their source of protein for their muscles. Think of it this way, a chemically free safe environment shared with a companion who kills mosquito's before they have a chance to bite you. Absolutely no harsh pesticides and no more noisy bug zappers or stinky citronella candles to deal with.
Becoming mindfully aware and protecting the environment, are just a small sampling of the many gifts and lessons that the hummingbird has to offer.
Love, beauty, companionship, spiritual guidance and no bugs. Life is Good! It doesn't get any better than this.
One additional and essential element you'll need to consider in your habitat is to offer many different resting places for the hummingbird. That’s right, just like you, the hummingbird needs a place to rest and nest.
By planting shrubs or trees of various shapes, sizes and heights you are offering places of rest. When choosing your shrubs you might want to consider a very famous shrub known as the hummingbird shrub. With its bright red color flowers it is sure to attract hummingbirds. The hummingbird shrub is a hardy shrub and is known to withstand harsh winters.
Hummingbirds love to perch, preen and nest. It’s important to offer both sun and shady areas.
While creating your hummingbird habitat, be sure to provide a place of comfort for yourself where you can sit, enjoy and learn. These tiny little birds are one of the most magnificent inspiring little creatures that has so much to offer.

terrific unique hub work thanks
Sage - Hummingbirds are remarkable little creatures and this is a remarkable hub. Thanks, Sage.
This is a lovely hub! It reminded me of my childhood memories. My grandma had a flower garden with a little bird bath. My cousins and I used to hang out there a lot. It was fun to watch all the birds. :)
Hey Sage...I adore hummingbirds! Thank you so much for all the tips...better get to work as the warmer climates have arrived and with that those tiny helicopters of a bird! Good hub!
Thank you Sage for a beautiful hub. I will bookmark this for the videos of the humming birds; as we do not have them here in the UK. I have been lucky enough to see them twice while on holiday to warmer places. I found the colours of them and their flight skills amazing and a joy to witness. This brought back the memory of seeing them, so thank you.
I bookmarked this article. Thank you for writing this timely hub! :-)
I used to frequent a restaurant where they had hummingbird feeders on a porch. They were so delightful. I must get a feeder! Thank you.
I love hummingbirds and everything I plant near my kitchen windows is there to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. I get so much enjoyment watching them I've never tried to get one to drink from my hand but I would love that. Great hub!
Sage, I LOVE this hub, I hope it inspires more folks to enjoy hummingbirds. I'm so amazed by them and love spending a quiet moment each morning in my zen garden watching the hummingbirds. I like the smaller feeders best as you can be certain to keep the contents fresher. Thanks and Peace :)
Sage...
You are a sweetheart, you know that? Birds and their singing are a blessed touch from Nature. Not being able to find the beauty in it is very sad! Their presence bespeaks of true beauty and harmony from above! Thanks for sharing, deary!
Thumbs up!
Warmest regards and infinite eternal blessings,
Al
Sage, what a fantastic hub, your hard work in producing it has paid off handsomely. As 2uesday has mentioned we, regrettably do not have humming birds over ere in England. Wish we did.
A very touching hub, the humming bird also means many things to the native Americans, if you should cross your path, they will bring you good luck. I enjoyed this warm hear-ted hub, thank you so much for this...
Hummingbirds are so enthralling. Great hub, thank you!
Oh I loved this hub. I have always loved birds and their place in nature but I never thought that much about the hummingbird, thanks for sharing this and giving me something to think about. Great job.
Oh, this is beautiful dear, but my heart has been open, I need this to open the hearts of many people here around me, hehe, Nicely done again, Maita
I love them - I think because of their size most of all, but then their beauty is unbelievable - how you can pack that much color in such a little space...and then that fierce deal. My favorite place is to hang them outside my kitchen window (where I just happen to spend so much time) and watch them at dusk trading off for a place to eat and chasing each other away...the give and take of it all is amazing! Beautiful hub - love the pics.
I get new information by reading this hub. From this hub I know that Hummingbirds is very beautiful. Good work.
Sage - I love how you point out the spiritual aspects of the hummingbird. We've been seeing more lately. They seem to like out trumpet vine which may be the same thing as your hummingbird vine.
Great hub. I love to watch humming birds
I visited friends in America years ago and they used to have feeders for hummingbirds on the veranda. The most pleasant experience was to sit there and watch them. They are fascinating creatures.
Beautiful, beautiful hub! You've opened my eyes about something I didn't know. Thank you!
"The hummingbird accentuates the spiritual side of life; offering spiritual direction and guidance to people as they attempt to learn, grow and deepen their relationships while here on this Earth." I absolutely love this paragraph! :)
Sage very interesting hub on Hummingbirs. Thanks for sharing this wonderful info.
Anything about Hummingbirds is a great read. My feeders are already out! Thanks for the hub
This is beautiful, kinda gave goosebumps! Now I am tempted to get a feeder to attract them as we plenty of waterfalls in the back garden.
Have rated your hub up!
Hummingbirds are absolutely beautiful little things, we have them in our yard and sometimes they are so over zealous they will fly right into your face. But they don't scare me they are precious and I am always in awe when they get so close. Thank you for sharing and providing such a wonderful hub. :)
We don't have hummingbirds in South Africa as far as I know. The closest we get are the sugar birds which also use nectar from trumpet shaped flowers like the tecomaria. They are very shy birds, though, and difficult to get close to.
I loved the idea of a hummingbird as a life coach! That is a wonderful observation on both birds and coaches. Great stuff. It is setting my mind off on a new path altogether. Thansk for that!
Love and peace
Tony
Wonderful hub Sage. Extremely well done. Here we don't have hummingbirds but I feel the same for robins, that's why I have that avatar pic. Rated and stumbled. :)
Thanks for great info. You can almost feel the tension slip away when you watch these tiny creatures, can't you?
Sage, you really are so extraordinary. I really need to take days and just bask in your hubs. I am in love with your talent, and the beauty. It takes my breath and gives it back to me. Thank you.
I love these little guys! They come to the flowers on my deck, and I can watch them while I'm in the pool.
i was lucky, no, blessed to have held a hummingbird in my hand when we resuced a baby one that had fallen from the nest. we Googled and found that you should leave them be, so after picking him up from the hot gravel, we placed him under the cool shade of the pine tree and sure enough, his mother came to watch over him. he couldn't fly, so at night he snuggled up against the wall under the pine tree, and we leaned a terra cotta pot over him so the cats couldn't get him at night. the next morning there he was, waiting for his mother, and later in the day he hopped up into the honeysuckle shrub and the next morning he hopped into the low branches of the pine tree and that afternoon he was in the middle and that evening he was buzzing about, so my son named him Buzz. we know him because he always gives three very loud chirps and flies right to your face and hovers there for a moment, then happily flits away. Buzz has a mate and has sired his own children. the Maya believed that hummingbirds are the spirit of deceased warriors. i can see that because they are fearless! ;)
lovely hub Sage. rating it UP.
that was terrific,I really enjoyed readingthis, I love birds too and breed them. great hub full of information
very nice hub thanks
We're lucky to have hummingbirds in our area. I need to plant some flowers to attract them and hang out a special feeder.
Sage, hummingbirds have a very near and dear place in my heart. We used to own a summer house up in Michigan and I spent some of the most wonderful months of my life there. We had a hummingbird feeder right outside our kitchen window and I just remember being so fascinated with them, especially their wing speed. They remind me of my departed grandmother who loved and adored them. I need to get busy attracting them! GREAT hub.
I love hummingbird! I use to watch them when I was a little girl and staying at my aunt's home. This hub brought back some memories and put a smile on my face. (which was needed more than I can say). Rated Up :)
Sage, this hub is beautiful in its every sense. Loved the flow of information was mesmerised by the beauty of this bird. Brought back some good old memories, I never knew the facts about them.
